SolarDjangui is a solar entrepreneurship program for rural women initiated by the Center for Communication and Sustainable Development for All (CECOSDA) in 2022.
The project was conceived by CECOSDA following a project to distribute 4600 free solar lighting kits in 46 remote villages in Cameroon, in partnership with the French Agency for Ecological Transition (ADEME), the Schneider Electric Foundation, the Fondation de France and the KIMSO survey firm. The project relied on rural women with great success.
The survey, carried out in partnership with KIMSO, revealed a great need for energy solutions in local communities, and a great opportunity offered by solar energy for the empowerment of rural women. This is why CECOSDA, one of whose objectives is to empower women, decided to set up the SolarDjangui initiative. The word “Djangui” is a local Cameroonian concept referring to an informal grouping of people in Cameroon who come together to support each other financially and foster mutual development.
