Women's Economic Empowerment Through Solar Energy
An Inspiring Visit from Schneider Electric to SolarDjangui Offices.
On July 28, 2024, SolarDjangui had the privilege of welcoming Mr. Thomas Bonicel, Director of the MEAS zone of Schneider Electric's IMPACT Access Energy program.
The day began with a dynamic working session with the women of SolarDjangui, who shared their experiences and presented their social marketing concept aimed at empowering women through the distribution of sustainable energy solutions. Mrs. Fopa, program assistant, emphasized the importance of Schneider Electric's technical support in strengthening the capacities of women engaged in the distribution of solar lamps, which are true tools for change in their communities. Thanks to free training provided on solar techniques and the dangers of polluting energies, SolarDjangui distributors are becoming key players in the ecological transition in Cameroon. By integrating the energy sector, they not only improve their economic conditions through profit margins on lamp sales but also become ambassadors for renewable energy, ready to raise awareness in their communities about its benefits.
The Schneider Electric team then visited SolarDjangui's offices and engaged in constructive discussions on network deployment strategies, with the ambition of being represented in all 58 departments of Cameroon. This expansion vision is crucial to strengthen the program's impact on a larger number of women. The visit was also an opportunity for the SolarDjangui team to receive training on Schneider Electric's solar products, particularly the Mobiya kits. These versatile lamps, which offer lighting and mobile phone charging possibilities through solar energy, address an urgent need for accessible energy solutions. The affordable price of the lamps was highlighted, ensuring their accessibility to all women and associations, thus strengthening their purchasing power and autonomy.
SolarDjangui, an initiative of CECOSDA Cameroon, is dedicated to empowering women through targeted programs. This partnership with Schneider Electric illustrates the importance of solar energy not only as a source of lighting but also as a lever for economic emancipation. Together, we aim to build a future where women are at the heart of the energy transition, equipped and informed to transform their environment and that of their community. This exemplary collaboration is part of a positive dynamic, bringing opportunities and hope for future generations. As Schneider Electric, the world's most sustainable corporation and a leader in the digital transformation of energy management and automation, we embody the vision of an inclusive and fair transition allowing people in underserved communities to build their future and create their businesses 3. This partnership with SolarDjangui is a testament to our commitment to sustainability and inclusion, providing a range of products and solutions for local electrification, skill development, and support for entrepreneurs to live better lives.
