New Solar Energy Ambassadors in Dir, Adamawa Region, Cameroon

Empowerment, Support, and Training for Women : A Commitment at the Heart of the Partnership!

In November 2024, a transformative mission led by SolarDjangui in Dir introduced not only innovative solar solutions but also paved the way for the empowerment of local women. Through training on green entrepreneurship, these women have become key players in the energy transition, combining improved quality of life with economic independence.
In Dir, a small village in Cameroon, hope and renewable energy are in the air. In November 2024, the SolarDjangui team arrived with a mission full of promise for this community, especially for its women traders. What began as a simple distribution of solar kits quickly transformed into a true journey of empowerment, with impacts that are felt throughout the entire village

In this context of scarcity, the reliable lighting provided by these devices had an immediate impact. Children in Dir can now study in the evenings, while adults can engage in productive activities after sunset. This change has not only improved quality of life but also strengthened social cohesion around new practices in learning and work.
But the initiative didn’t stop there. The women of Dir, far from being mere passive beneficiaries, were trained to become distributors of solar products. Through green entrepreneurship training, they acquired the skills needed to navigate the world of trade and sales. This has enabled them to generate additional income, enhancing their financial independence and status within the community. This new role has also created a ripple effect, encouraging other women to get involved and consider careers in similar fields.

Beyond economic empowerment, these women have become true ambassadors for renewable energy. Armed with knowledge about sustainable energy issues, they raise awareness among their neighbors about the benefits of solar energy. This wave of community leadership promotes lasting change in local energy habits, fostering a culture of sustainability that could inspire other villages. SolarDjangui’s initiative in Dir is more than just a response to immediate needs; it is part of a long-term vision for sustainable development. By encouraging the adoption of solar energy, the project helps reduce reliance on polluting energy sources, aligning Dir's goals with global ambitions for sustainability. SolarDjangui’s last-mile delivery model demonstrates that innovative energy solutions can reach even the most remote areas. This unique approach proves that renewable energy can truly transform lives, every step of the way.

As SolarDjangui continues to expand its impact “mile by mile,” Dir’s experience stands as an inspiring model for other rural communities in Cameroon and beyond. This project shows that women's empowerment and access to sustainable energy can go hand in hand, paving the way for a more inclusive and ecological future. This initiative would not have been possible without the unwavering support of valuable partners. We extend our gratitude to Schneider Electric for their commitment to sustainable energy solutions and to Cameroon’s Ministry of Environment, Nature Protection, and Sustainable Development (MINEPDED) for their institutional support. Their collaboration is key to the success of this project, enabling solar energy to reach rural communities while empowering the women of Dir.
Together, we are building a brighter and more sustainable future for Cameroon, where each day is a new opportunity to shine through renewable energy.
